My Little Test ON Making Money On Twitter

Posted by tmcmembe on 02 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: general

twitter_logoSo can you make money on Twitter? I have seen a lot of people saying that you can, so I decided to do my own little test. To set the scene, when I did my test, I had 6500 followers. So not huge but reasonable for a test.

I decided to promote a brand new product by internet marketing giants, Matt Bacak and Shawn Casey. Why this, well I have used tweet spinner to get my followers and I have mainly targeted keywords like, internet marketing, making money on line etc. So a product by two internet greats seemed logical.

I also decided that I would use tweet later to set up six tweet’s to broadcast over a 14 hour period. This would allow for time variations for my followers. Another reason I chose the product was that Shawn Casey has great tracking, so I knew I would get statistics.

So I sent out ‘Matt Bacak and Shawn Casey together, what more could you need to make money online?’
Then I waited. So after 14 hours having tweeted 7 times in total, one at the beginning and 6 more with tweet later. I have 36 clicks on the link (One of which was by Matt Bacak himself). Not one single sale.

What does this mean? Well to me its simple! If you send out a message 7 times to 6500 people which is 45500 messages in total. Then you would expect say 100 responses anyway. So its shotgun marketing, which is, bang, bang please run into the bullet.

I personally do not believe that Twitter or a lot of the social media is a quick hit sales tool. I do believe that it is a great relationship builder, which is vital for long term sales and client retention. So don’t stop it, just add it in as a part of your overall strategy.

Oh by the by if you have made money on Twitter I would love to hear how, in the meantime, its filed under urban myth.

To Make Money Online, First You Must Find Your Niche

Posted by tmcmembe on 30 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: general

make-money-onlineIf you are starting out in the world of online marketing, your first and vital step is to find your niche. You may ask what is a niche, its a small section. In building terms it is where two walls meet. So if you think of the room as the whole market , then the corner is your niche. Imagine you are zooming in to the corner, closer, closer. That’s the easiest way, I think, to visualise a niche. So now how do you find your on line niche. Here are some simple steps to take.

1. Go to a magazine store and see what magazines are for sale. If they are a number of magazines on the same topic, this is better. That means there is a demand for this topic.

2. God, Money, weight loss.

3 of the major markets on line at the moment. 3. Make a list of ten items and then follow below for each.

4. Google it. Then Google it some more.

5. Go to eBay pulse and look at associated trends. Look at related products. 6. Go to Google zeitgeist and use the tools here.

7. Go To Amazon.com and look at what is available in your niche already.

8. Check out your pay for click, on Google AdWords, to see your costs.

9. Look up forums to check out what’s going on, in each niche

10. Do some experiment marketing, on the social media sites. Remember that social media is a very poor sales tool. But its free.

11. Choose one niche, master it, and master the systems. Then and only then move on.

Go through theses steps, pick you niche and get marketing. Also what are you going to sell in your niche, as in, which type of product? You have got to complete these steps first before you go on line. Otherwise you stand the chance of losing money on line, not making it. Get your niche, get your system, then push.

What to Do in Business, When The Banks Are Kicking You

Posted by tmcmembe on 26 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: Business

imgname--mobile_banking_opportunity_us_consumers_obsessed_with_bank_balances---50226711--23276667Well nearly most, if not all businesses go through a bad patch. It would seem at the moment that all business worldwide is going through a bad patch. How has this happened, is not for discussion, here and now. Anyway if you are in trouble or about to get into trouble, what to do now?, is the main question. Firstly no matter what, do not tell your Bank manager you are in trouble. They will almost certainly reduce your facilities. Also this is advice, if and only you really, really believe that your business is going to get back on its feet and that you can turn the corner and recover.

Firstly put yourself into your manager’s position and mind set. What’s his job?, to get as much money from you as possible, so that his chief executive, can get a big fat bonus. So remember always that a bank is an institution that gives you an umbrella when the sun shines, but wants it back when the rain clouds appear. Also it’s a known fact, to get funding in the first place you need to prove that you don’t need any money.

First thing to do is open a second account for your company, today. For some reason people believe you cannot do this, that it is illegal or the banks would not do it. Continue Reading »

A Fathers Advice

Act your age?

Act your age?

This is just a thought that stuck me today. In a few days it is the 2nd years anniversary of the deathof my father in law. I had a great relationship with this man, we always laughed. So my turns to make me think of my relationship with my own dad.

You seem to go through the stages, small kid, totally dependent. Teenager , yikes. This one is a whole book. Then as an adult, the relationship either grows or dies. I am lucky, my da and I get on better than ever. I think maybe he has grown up.

I remember a couple of words of wisdom that he has imparted, this from a man who has achieved more, lived more and laughed more, than anyone I know. I know a lot of wealthy people, but none more than him.He is comfortable in money terms, but because he sings and enjoys the craic, he has the life of a king.

Anyway the words to share.

When I was 16 I wanted a motorbike. I was  now a working man, making a wage. I wanted my independence. After gently telling me that the bike would be in three disposable bags if I ever brought one home. He said he would insure me in his and my mothers car. Continue Reading »

A Kind Gift Of Knowledge.

Selling Rules

Selling Rules

This morning I received, by mail, the book you see above. What’ s special about that, well it was sent as a gift, yes free. The author Murray Raphel, inscribed it and sent it to me. Why, well because I emailed him to say thanks.

About 15-18 years ago, I went to seminar with Murray. His words back then have lasted with me. listening to Murray opened my eyes to marketing. I have no formal education in Marketing and sales, but I have studied it my whole working life. if you own a business, you have too. Of all the people I have ever heard in my life time and they are a hell of a lot, for me Murray is the king. Why?

He opened my mind to direct marketing. back when he started it, it was direct mail. You got some one’s name and address and you mailed them promotions. Sounds simple now doesn’t it. 18 years ago, this was high tech. I am still using his principles today, but not snail mail, email. Imagine, create a list and promote to it, still works. Just the medium and the delivery system is the different. One of the stories Murray told has stayed with me all the years.

I have told this story, more times than I care to remember. Murray went skiing to  Switzerland. While there he came across an exhibition selling ski wear. So being in the rag trade, he and his wife, decided to check it out. They came a cross one supplier that they really liked and went to talk with him. the minute the vendor heard that they were American, he said ‘ we can’t supply you, your too big’. Continue Reading »

A Word Of Warning! On Social Media and On Line People

Posted by tmcmembe on 14 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: The Life Of Mac, humour, internet marketing

socialmedialandscapeThere is a story in the newspaper about some one on face book, not being who they said they are. They claimed that they were starting the Irish version of ‘next top model’. Why they did this?, I have no idea, but that’s not what I am going to write about. Its about ‘Who are you, really?’

On Line you can be anyone, I mean superman or wonder women if you wish. There are no limitations to your super powers. You can charm, scheme and basically lie about every thing. They are no rules on line. To become anyone you need a domain name, which you can make private. An email address, to the private domain, check you email on line. So everything is Virtual Including who you say you are.

So if you can do this, there is nothing stopping everyone else doing this also. Now most people won’t, I am a firm believer in people. Most people are honest, kind and caring, which is why I love social media and how with it we can connect to different people around the world. It opens up new dimensions and new ideas. Hopefully it will be one of the resources that will unite the world. Continue Reading »
