Just as fans of Mobile Mangus’s Leapin’ Leprechaun flick the lead character, the “Leader in Mobile Applications” has given its initial development team the flick – all in an effort to make way for a new and more experienced set of game developers. The company recently gave its current Leapin’ Leprechaun development team the leprechaun boot and is bringing all future development to the USA and Ireland. With 15 years of game development stored up, the new team members are poised to serve up more pots of gaming gold for Mobile Magnus.

According to a recent AppStore HQ research report, as of July 2010 there were 43,185 iOS application developers. Two years later, with new iPhones and iPads having since been released, that number is likely substantially higher. And with the vast majority of these developers putting out games, it’s extremely difficult for a new game developer to stand out among the overcrowding.

Mobile Magnus, which released its first game, Leapin’ Leprechaun, earlier this year managed to differentiate itself despite the odds being stacked against it. In fact, it cracked the iTunes App Store’s Top 10 list and soared to number one in several countries. Mobile Magnus, however, isn’t taking any chances on that success being beginner’s luck.

To maintain the momentum Leapin’ Leprechaun garnered in the gaming community, the company recently let go its international developers and replaced them with a highly experienced development team from the USA and Ireland, where Leapin’ Leprechaun takes place.

“We now have the lead designers in Ireland and a brand new group of rockstar developers in the USA,” explains Mobile Magnus’s spokesperson, William McCarthy. “Our new developers have developed many best-selling games and are avid gamers themselves. As a result, they understand gamers’ needs and can ensure we continue making games people will play every day.”

That new development team includes a lead developer who used to work for Sony, Stormfront Studios (of The Spiderwick Chronicles and Eragon fame) and Acclaim Entertainment (makers of Vexx, Turock and Extreme-G). Indeed, the new Mobile Magnus team members command 15 years of game industry experience, bringing with them strong familiarity with multiple programming languages (Objective-C, C++, C#, TorqueScript) and project management methods.

The previously published titles they’ve had a hand in developing are compatible with the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, XBox, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, GBA and Sega Saturn game consoles. The new development team members are no strangers to the iPhone mobile gaming community either. Indeed, six of the titles they developed are currently available at Apple’s App Store.

Leapin Lep Hit’s #1 in South Korea

The iPhone version of the game has just taken the number one spot in iTunes’ list of the top Kids games in the South Korea App Store.

Leapin’ Leprechaun, the Irish-themed game from Mobile Magnus, continues its record-setting sales pace. The iPhone version of the game has just taken the number one spot in iTunes’ list of the top Kids games in the South Korea App Store. That feat positions Leapin’ Leprechaun tops among some of the most discerning game-players in the world. It also sets up the iPad version of the game to make similar waves as the new iPad infiltrates the South Korean tech space.

In early 2011, the South Korean mobile operator KT Corp. announced that iPhone users had surpassed 2 million users in South Korea. Currently, the global news source AllVoices estimates that there are about 3 million users in the country. That figure represents over 6% of the population. Up until November of last year, however, those iPhone users could not buy games for their smartphones on iTunes. That is because the South Korean government prohibited Apple from including games in the country’s App Store.

Now that that ban has been lifted, South Koreans are making up for lost time, and one of the iPhone games they are flocking to is Leapin’ Leprechaun. That frenzy has allowed the Irish-themed game to catapult to the number one slot in the South Korea App Stores’ Kids games category. And demand for the game there is only going to increase as South Koreans start getting their hands on the new iPad, which went on sale in their homeland late last month.

This is the second time Leapin’ Leprechaun has scored a top ranking in the iTunes App Store. Previously, it went to number one in Iceland. And while that accomplishment pleased the game’s lead developer, William McCarthy, this new achievement thrills him.

“South Korea is one of the biggest gaming nations in the world,” he explains, and that’s putting things mildly. According to a recent BBC News report, the country “is a paradise for online gamers, who come from all over the world to play in South Korea.” Indeed, a study conducted by the Ecole Polytechnique Federale De LauSanne puts the number of gamers in South Korea at 17 million. “This means that 35% of Korea’s population plays video games.”

“As a result of their gaming addictions, South Koreans set the tone for the rest of the world. If it’s hot in South Korea, chances are it will be hot everywhere soon,” McCarthy concludes. Bloomsberg Business concurs. “Avid young gamers (in South Korea) represent the perfect global laboratory to try out new game concepts that will drive future growth in the … global video game industry.”

Mobile Magnus, the maker of the highly addictive Leapin’ Leprechaun app, has just received word that iTunes has approved the iPhone version of the game for sale in its App Store. This latest offering features the same smart-talking Paddy the Leprechaun fans have grown to love and the scenic Ireland game play that has made the Lite HD version such a hit. The only difference is this newest version is a full edition that is universally compatible with not only the iPhone but also the iPad.

Apple gamers are a discerning bunch, willing to drop down their hard-earned cash for only those games that truly wow them. Indeed, according to the Gamasutra website, which specializes in the art and business of making games, only two of the top 10 game titles in the Apple App Store for the week of May 2, 2012 were paid versions, those being longstanding favorites Angry Birds Space and Draw Something. Gamers are even more wary about shelling out money for the newer, unestablished apps.

Yet for all their stinginess and hesitancy, these same game players have been so delighted with their experience with the free Leapin’ Leprechaun Lite HD that they quickly began clamoring for a full paid version. The game’s developer was happy to oblige them and Leapin’ Leprechaun v. 1.0 for the iPad was born. But despite that rush to meet demand, iPhone gamers were still left with the free Lite and Pro versions as their only options.

All of that changed earlier this week when iTunes gave its stamp of approval to the Apple smartphone version of Leapin’ Leprechaun 1.0, which is universally compatible with the iPhone as well as the iPad. Just one day into its May 3, 2012 App Store launch, the full variation of the game had already garnered five reviews, earning a perfect overall score of five stars. One customer described it as “very simple but addictive” and recommended, “If you’re bored of playing Angry Birds, but loved [that game], go for this game. It’s totally worth a try. Am I saying this is the next BIG game… maybe, very possibly!

Expert opinion is also feeding the Leapin’ Leprechaun frenzy. The @AppzThatRock Twitter review team recently named the full iPhone/iPad version of the game an App That Rocks.

We can’t precisely pinpoint what sparked the Icelandic interest in Leapin’ Leprechaun, but residents of that country have been flocking to the game more than any other

Mobile Magnus, the maker of the new Leapin’ Leprechaun game for the iPad, has just learned that the game has catapulted to number one in the Iceland iTunes store rankings. Within days of being released, the Irish-themed game featuring a taunting yet fun-loving Paddy the Leprechaun rose to the number one slot for Adventure games and took the number two spot for Kids games. Those figures positioned it number one overall among all games downloaded in Iceland.

According to the World Factbook, the estimated population of Iceland in July 2012 will be 313,183. At just one-tenth the U.S. population, one would expect the country to lag behind the rest of the world in terms of mobile computer technology, but that is not the case. Indeed, Iceland ranks among the top countries in the world in terms of Internet use. The “The Global Information Technology Report 2010–2011,” in fact, ranks Iceland number one in terms of Internet users (with 93.5% of its population being connected).

Not surprisingly then, one of the additional countries where Apple released the newest iPad on March 23, 2012 was Iceland. As the latest game-playing technology enters the country’s borders, Mobile Magnus, the maker of Leapin’ Leprechaun, expects already heavy demand for the game to increase even more.

“We can’t precisely pinpoint what sparked the Icelandic interest in Leapin’ Leprechaun, but residents of that country have been flocking to the game more than any other,” says William McCarthy, lead designer of Leapin’ Leprechaun. “Perhaps it’s Iceland’s proximity to Ireland, where the game’s scenery originates from, but we think it’s more than that.”

He speculates that ‘something more’ as being the country’s frontrunner status in all things computer tech related. “Icelanders recognize cutting-edge technology when they see it and they are among the very first individuals to embrace such technology. Given all the choices they have, we’re extremely honored and humbled to have scored their stamp of approval in the iTunes App Store.”

That pride is certainly warranted. With over 500,000 third-party iPad/iPhone applications to choose from, earning a number one ranking in the games category is no small feat anywhere in the world.
